Dr Joshua Givorshner completed his undergraduate degree in medical science with a major in microbiology, graduating with first-class honours for his treatise in molecular virology.
He then went on to complete his medical training at The University of Sydney, graduating in 2014.
Prior to his training in ophthalmology, his pre-vocational clinical portfolio includes significant experience in emergency and intensive care medicine.
He completed his ophthalmology training in the Sydney Eye Hospital network between 2021 and 2025, gaining experience in several major metropolitan Sydney hospitals and training in rural locations including Darwin and Wagga Wagga. During this time, he also completed his graduate diploma in ophthalmic science with The University of Sydney.
Dr Givorshner has worked within the Sydney Eye Hospital network over the last decade and held the position of the Professorial Senior in his final year of ophthalmology training in 2025.
He has a keen interest and involvement in teaching, co-ordinating the teaching programmes for all Sydney Eye network training registrars in 2025 and has been significantly invested in medical student and junior medical officer supervision and training throughout his career. He is a clinical associate lecturer with The University of Sydney/Save Sight Institute and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. Clinically, Dr Givorshner is a comprehensive general ophthalmologist, with experience in cornea, uveitis, medical retina and neuro-ophthalmology. He has a subspecialty interest in the health and diseases of the anterior segment of the eye, including the cornea and cataract surgery.
