Dr Chua graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (Hons) and a Masters of Public Health (Hons). He commenced his internship and residency at Royal North Shore Hospital before starting ophthalmology training through the Sydney Eye Hospital.
He was heavily involved in the Blue Mountains Eye Study, both as the coordinator and a clinical examiner, through the Centre for Vision Research at Westmead Hospital. After completing his ophthalmic training at the Sydney Eye Hospital, he undertook further fellowship training to sub-specialise in glaucoma at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne before returning to Sydney to continue his clinical and research commitments.
Dr Chua has authored numerous scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and has also presented at multiple local and international scientific congresses. He is currently a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Sydney. He is also a staff specialist in the glaucoma unit at the Sydney Eye Hospital, and is visiting medical officer at St Vincent’s Hospital and Macquarie University Hospital.
He is a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and has a sub-specialty interest in cataract and glaucoma surgery.
