Finding out that our newborn son had cataracts threatening his ability to see was a shock to say the least! As a first-time mother, the anguish at sending your tiny bundle into an operating room at just two weeks old was heart-breaking. I don’t think I could have done it, without the confidence that I had in Dr John Grigg who is an internationally recognised expert in the field and who genuinely cares about his patients and their families.
Over the year to follow we were frequent visitors to the clinic, sometimes on a weekly basis due to our son’s glaucoma. Dr Grigg was always patient with us terrified parents and no question was too silly – even when asked repeatedly! Our son is now an active, happy and intelligent (if I do say so myself!) 3 year old who does all the same things as other kids his age.
Dr Grigg and his staff have always been gentle and kind to our son, even through tantrums and extreme non-cooperation at times. I’m pleased to say that Jeremy now really looks forward to visiting “Dr John and his special eye machines” every few months. The staff at Gordon Eye Clinic have also been great – the orthoptists made eye examinations fun for him and the reception staff are always friendly and helpful. We never felt alone during this very difficult time and have the team at Gordon Eye Surgery, and especially Dr Grigg, to thank for their support and kindness – and most importantly – for giving our little boy a normal childhood and the best vision possible for his condition.
